Algeria grants China’s Jingdong steel plant concession

Algerian investment agency AAPI says Chinese company Jingdong Steel has been awarded a concession contract to establish an iron and steel manufacturing facility in M’sila.

AAPI chief executive Omar Rekkache officially handed over the contract for a 36-hectare site located within the Drâa El Hadja industrial zone in M’sila, Kallanish notes.

The project, valued at $500 million, will be executed in two stages. The first will focus on setting up a steel sheet production line with a capacity of 200,000 tonnes/year, while the second phase will develop a steel tube production unit capable of producing 300,000 t/y.

According to AAPI, this industrial complex is poised to become a key strategic hub for supplying steel products to North Africa’s construction industry and is projected to create 1,114 direct jobs, along with approximately 2,000 indirect jobs.
