Vietnamese producer Hoa Phat Dung Quat has kept unchanged its monthly domestic hot rolled coil prices, Kallanish notes.
Hoa Phat’s listed quotes, announced on 3 June, for non-skin passed SAE1006 or SS400 grade HRC for July delivery have been set at the equivalent of around $511/tonne cfr southern Vietnam, excluding VAT.
In VND terms, the latest price of VND 13,390/kg cfr southern Vietnam is unchanged from last month. The prevailing exchange rate is VND 26,200 per dollar.
The mill’s quotes to northern and central Vietnam have also been maintained from last month, at VND 13,360/kg cfr. Its prices are based on 40-50% of the lot comprising 2mm thickness strip and the remainder 2.3-3mm thickness.
Hoa Phat is maintaining HRC prices because the mill is exercising caution, a Hanoi trader says. “The rainy season has started. They want to gauge how customers will bid,” he explains. Buyers will find the mill's prices acceptable because they are not high relative to Chinese and Japanese quotes, another trader in southern Vietnam adds.
