Worldsteel: Global crude steel production slides by 0.8% in 2024

According to statistics from the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global crude steel production totaled 144.5 million tons in December 2024, rising by 5.6% compared to the same month a year ago.

Among them, Asia's crude steel production reached 106.3 million tons, up by 9% year on year, of which China's output accounted for 76 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 11.8%. The crude steel production from 27 EU countries was 9.6 million tons, hiking by 7% year on year. The CIS countries produced 6.8 million tons, down by 6.8% year on year.

During the period, North American crude steel output was roughly 9 million tons, sliding by 4.3% year on year; South American output was 3.1 million tons, going down by 3.8% year on year. Crude steel production in Africa was down by 1.0% year on year to 1.9 million tons, and the output in the Middle East fell by 4.5% year on year to 4.6 million tons.

In 2024, global crude steel production amounted to 1.88 billion tons, dropping by 0.8% compared to the previous year.
