Crude steel output among the member mills of the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) declined by 1.1% on year over January-May to reach 350 million tonnes, according to the latest release by the association late Monday. For May alone, the output stood at 73.3 million tonnes, higher by 0.7% on year.
During the first five months, the country's total crude steel output amounted to 439 million tonnes, down 1.4% on year, among which 92.9 million tonnes were produced during May, ticking up 2.7% on year, the data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed.
In parallel, CISA's member mills churned out finished steel products reaching 343 million tonnes over January-May, dipping by 0.4% on year, according to the release. Though their last month's finished steel output saw an uptick of 0.9% on year to 72.8 million tonnes.
