Alliance Steel targets another 6.5mty capacity in 2026

Alliance Steel, a joint venture between Guangxi Beibu Gulf Port International Group and Guangxi Shenglong Metallurgical, says it is undertaking the second phase of its expansion plan in Malaysia, which will add additional 6.5 million tonnes/year of steel capacity for the company in 2026. 

"We are currently undertaking the engineering design for the project. It will take about two years to complete. We expect the project to go into production in 2026," a company representative tells Kallanish

According to her, the project is part of the firm's plan to invest $1.8 billion in the second expansion phase at its steel plant located in Kuantan, the capital of the Malaysian state of Pahang. Upon completion, the company's capacity will be increased to 10 million tonnes/year from 3.5m t/y currently.

The company earlier invested $1.6 billion in phase one to build a plant on 710 acres of land. In the second phase, the company plans to acquire 750 acres of new land.

The company, which mainly produces high-speed wire rod, bars and H-beams, earlier said it plans to expand its product range to high-end steel plate products.
