Turkish rebar exports continued their downward trend into the new year. They fell by 36.8% on-year to 306,762 tonnes in January. They were, nevertheless, up from 265,755t in November and 267,532t in December, according to Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data monitored by Kallanish.
Their average price was $655/tonne, down from $712/t in January 2022 and $694/t in December 2022.
Yemen, a major destination, was the top market in January with 82,877t despite a 19.2% on-year decline. Israel, another important market, more than halved intake to 68,655t in January. The US followed with a significant rise in intake with 32,839t versus only 4,866t a year earlier.
Ethiopia took 27,486t in January versus only 3,075t last year. Panama took 20,859t, up 67.2% on-year.
Jamaica took 12,462t in January, down 26.6% on-year.
The Turkish Republic of North Cyprus more than doubled its intake to 8,459t.
However, Iraq took 7,269t, down 20.5% on-year. Albania more than halved intake to 5,007t.
Romania took 4,998t in January versus zero last year.
The Dominican Republic more than halved intake to 4,310t.
Congo, which took zero last year, sourced 4,018t. Bulgaria took 3,487t in January versus almost zero a year earlier.
Chile, Senegal and Lebanon took almost zero in January versus 29,994t, 17,875t and 11,957t respectively in January 2022.
