POSCO to build new electric arc furnace at Gwangyang Works

South Korean steelmaker POSCO has decided to build a new electric arc furnace at its Gwangyang Works with an approved investment of approximately 600 billion won, in order to start the transition to a low-carbon steel production system.

The new electric arc furnace will have an annual production capacity of 2.5 million tons. The construction will be started in January next year and was scheduled to be put into full operation by 2026.

POSCO has a goal to reduce carbon emissions. It continues moving toward this goal by introducing an electric furnace and developing hydrogen-reducing technology for steel production.
