Hyundai’s HTWO inks first large-scale fuel cell system deal

Hyundai Motor Group says its fuel cell brand HTWO has secured its first large-scale supply deal to third-party OEMs. The company will provide its fuel cell systems to ENGINIUS, a subsidiary of Germany-based FAUN Group, Kallanish reports.

The undisclosed deal will see ENGINIUS’s initial fleet of over 1,100 fuel cell trucks equipped with the 90-kilowatt FC system. The technology will be paired on chassis to provide zero-emission power for waste collection trucks and medium cargo trucks for intra-city goods delivery. It has already been featured in over 30,000 Hyundai NEXO fuel cell electric vehicles around the world.

ENGINIUS has already delivered over 60 units of its waste collection truck known as BLUEPOWER, but the CITYPOWER cargo truck will be equipped with HTWO’s tech for field-testing in 2024 and series production in 2025. The companies didn’t specify when HTWO’s deliveries would begin.

“Our customers will benefit from our joint know-how and this partnership will provide a boost to carbon-neutral commercial trucking,” comments Thorsten Baumeister, ceo of ENGINIUS’ Trucks Division.
