China's excavator sales jump 16% YoY in November

Chinese excavator sales to both domestic and overseas customers during November gained by 15.8% on year to 23,680 units, according to the latest release data from the China Construction Machinery Association (CCMA) on December 8. Total sales were also higher by 15.5% on month.

The CCMA survey among the country's 26 major excavator producers showed that their domestic sales last month totalled 14,398 units, growing by 2.7% on year or 26.9% on month.

Domestic sales of excavators posted an on-month increase for the third consecutive month during November, as most customers in need of excavators procured machines conforming to Stage III emission standards as prices of Stage III machines were lower ahead of this month's ban taking effect.

Effective from December 1, both production and sales of non-road motor machinery including excavators and loaders whose exhaust emissions fail to meet the latest Stage IV standards are banned, a Shanghai-based analyst said.

For example, last month an excavator of 70,000 tonnes conforming to Stage III emission standards was around Yuan 30,000/unit ($4,304.8/unit) cheaper than one conforming to Stage IV standards, he commented. In November too, many infrastructure projects were launched which also lent some support to excavator sales, he added.

Meanwhile, during last month, Chinese excavator sales to overseas buyers soared by 44.4% on year to 9,282 units, the CCMA data showed.

Over January-November, total excavator sales inside and outside China reached 244,477 units, dropping by 23.3% on year. Among the total, domestic sales accounted for 59.6% or 145,738 units, plunging by 43.7% on year, the CCMA data showed.

On the other hand, China's excavator exports soared by 64.9% on year to 98,739 units in this year's first eleven months, the CCMA data also indicated.

As for loaders, another key item of construction machinery, domestic and export sales of these among the 22 manufacturers under CCMA's tracking jumped by 36.2% on year to 13,582 units last month. The total sales over January-November declined by 12.7% on year to 114,938 units, however.
