Saudi Arabia, China prepare ground for hydrogen collaboration

Saudi Arabia announced on Friday the signing of several MOUs with its Chinese counterparts and companies covering several areas, including hydrogen, Kallanish reports.

The agreements took place during the official state visit of China’s President Xi Jinping to Riyadh, and also include mining and circular carbon economy projects. Details on specific agreements weren’t disclosed.

Separately, Saudi renewable developer ACWA Power said it signed a series of MOUs with nine “renowned” Chinese entities. These will lay ground for financing, investment and construction of ACWA Power’s global clean and renewable energy projects in Saudi Arabia and Belt and Road Initiative countries, the green hydrogen developer says.

Strategic partners from China include Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), Bank of China, SPIC Huanghe Hydropower Development Company, China Southern Power Grid International, Power China International Group, China Energy International Group, Jinko Solar Company, Sungrow PowerSupply Company and Jolywood Solar Technology Company.

Saudi Aramco also reported a MOU with Shandong Energy that includes hydrogen cooperation, although that was a marginal element of the deal focusing on downstream oil projects in China.
