South Korean government releases carbon neutral strategies

During a recent industry meeting, the South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT approved a carbon-neutral technology innovation strategic map. The government encourages a series of actions to promote clean energy through low-emission fuels such as hydrogen.

According to this document, the South Korean government will construct the world's second-largest carbon dioxide storage tank, increase hydrogen supply, and expand the use of zero-emission fuels.

In terms of hydrogen production and supply, the government will provide support for large-quantity storage, long-distance gas transportation, and other technologies in order to reach the goals of 1.94 million tonnes in 2030 and 29.7m t in 2050, Kallanish learns. In terms of hydrogen vehicle, the government aims to promote 4.5m hydrogen vehicles in 2030, laying foundations for the next-generation battery vehicles, as well as developing technologies for preventing battery fires.

In addition, in terms of the capture, utilisation, and storage of carbon dioxide, the government will implement comprehensive projects in East China Sea Gas Field, striving to reach 4m t and 15m t of storage respectively in 2030 and 2050 in terms of annual carbon dioxide storage volume.
