Japan's steel scrap rises in September

Japan's steel scrap exports rose 33.68% to 623,815 tonnes in September, from 466,661t a year ago, Kallanish notes.

According to Trade Statistics of Japan, South Korea, the largest export market, imported 284,851t of scrap from Japan in the month, up 21.01% from 235,390t a year earlier.

Vietnam, the second largest export market, took 147,579t of scrap from Japan in September, up 30.84% from 112,793t.

Taiwan was the destination for 49,293t of scrap from Japan, up slightly from 48,894t the previous month.

Over January to September, Japan exported 4.7 million tonnes of scrap, down 19.11% from 5.81mt a year ago.

For the peirod, Korea imported 2.38mt of scrap from Japan, up marginally from 2.36mt.

Vietnam and Taiwan imported 1.05mt and 417,305t of scrap from Japan respectively, down from 1.8mt and 491,606t a year earllier
