Hyundai Steel resumes CRC production after strike

South Korean steelmaker Hyundai Steel has resumed operation of its cold-rolling mill at Dangjin Steel Works from 26 October, after a 14-day shutdown caused by strike action.

The No.1 and No.2 cold rolling units at the plant resumed operation on Wednesday, according to a local newsletter. However, there is still the possibility of continued strikes causing supply disruptions in the future as the two sides still differ on wage levels, Kallanish notes.

Hyundai Steel's cold-rolled coil production had been stalled due to a shortage of hot-rolled coil substrate caused by strikes. However, ample inventories ensured continued supply to customers during the shutdown. The steelmaker's CRC products are used to manufacture the bodies of Hyundai and Kia vehicles.
