Shenzhen-listed Wuxi Lead Intelligent Equipment (Lead) recently signed a battery equipment contract with Silk Road Clean Energy Solutions (SiRo), a joint battery company of the Gebze-based electric vehicle company Turkey's Automobile (TOGG) and the leading pouch cell provider Farasis Energy. The two parties will establish collaboration, including supply deals, on EV battery related items, such as packs.
According to Lead, it obtained the 20 gigawatt-hour battery equipment order with "absolute technical advantages of doubled production line efficiencies." In the next five years, Lead will provide high-speed module lines, pack lines, smart logistics warehouses, software systems, smart factory line systems, and other products and services for this project.
The relatively low efficiency of pouch cell production has always been a problem in the industry. Lead has been focusing on making a difference by improving production line efficiencies instead of traditionally expanding production capacities, Kallanish learns.
In October 2021, representatives of SiRo visited Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and signed a 20 GWh investment plan with Turkey's Ministry of Industry and Technology after delivering presentations. According to this plan, SiRo will establish a factory next to TOGG's production centre in Gemlik. The batteries to be produced are likely to be applied by TOGG.
