In the recent Q3 guidance issued by US Steel, the company shared the changed status of its furnaces at Mon Valley Works and Gary Works, Kallanish monitored from the US Steel statement.
Blast furnace #3 in Mon Valley moved its 30-day scheduled outage up to September from October. The furnace has an annual raw steel capability of approximately 1.4 million short tons. Work on the furnace began on 3 September.
At Gary Works, blast furnace #8 was idled “due to market conditions and elevated levels of imports,” the guidance states. Blast furnace #8 has approximately 1.5m st of annual capability. No projected restart date was given in the guidance.

Currently, Kallanish lists the prices of hot rolled coil between $790-800/st. Cold rolled coil is priced between $1,190-1,200/st.
