POSCO, South Korea’s steelmaker, announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Vale, a Brazilian miner, to develop solutions for the steel industry to reduce carbon emissions.
The agreement includes the feasibility of a new hot briquetted iron (HBI) production plant, related investments, and discussions on how to reduce carbon emissions in the production process, with the goal of securing raw materials for low carbon steel and promoting low carbon HBI production.
The review plan was expected to be completed by the end of this year and may lead to other new investment plans.
