Nucor to Build New Steel Tube Mill in Kentucky

Charlotte, N.C.-based Nucor Corporation announced that it plans to build a new tube mill in Kentucky, on the same site of its Gallatin sheet mill. The company announced investment of $164 million to build the plant. The mill is expected to become operational by mid-2023 and is expected to create approximately new 70 full-time jobs.

Nucor had recently announced investments at the Gallatin mill, aiming at major expansion of the facility by addition of new galvanizing line. The Gallatin campus was selected as the ideal location for the new tube mill, as it could take full advantage of the new galvanizing line. The mill will have a capacity to produce nearly 250,000 tons of hollow structural section steel tubing, mechanical steel tubing and galvanized solar torque tube.

Rex Query, Executive Vice President of Sheet and Tubular Products for Nucor Corporation thanked Governor Beshear, officials with the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development, and local officials in Gallatin County for their relentless support for the new project.

The new tube mill will help Nucor to better serve its customers in the construction, infrastructure and renewable energy markets. The proximity to expanding solar markets in the U.S. and the largest consuming regions for HSS steel tubing makes it an ideal location.
