Vietnam, the largest scrap importer in South-East Asia, imported scrap with around 2.16 million tons in the first quarter, dropping by 29.2% year on year. In June, Vietnam's scrap imports totaled 480,000 tons, decreasing by 2% month on month.
In June, the US accounted for the largest proportion of Vietnam's scrap imports, with 170,000 tons, increasing by 21% month on month. Besides that, the imports from Japan were 150,000 tons, sliding by 6.3% month on month.
Because of the high-level finished steel inventory, buyers prefer to purchase domestic products at reasonable prices. As a result, Vietnam's scrap imports were expected to maintain a low level.
