Toyota adjusts June production lower again

Japanese car manufacturer Toyota again decided to cut its June production due to the parts shortage resulting from the spread of Covid-19, Kallanish learns from the company’s official announcement.

Operations at some domestic plants have been suspended from Friday last week, following a Covid-19 outbreak at one of Toyota’s suppliers, and a shortage of parts supply caused by a production equipment defect at another supplier.

The suspensions would affect output of approximately 40,000 cars. Thus, Toyota revised its global production plan for June to 750,000 units, while keeping production guidance at 9.7 million units for the whole fiscal year.

“As it remains difficult to look ahead due to the shortage of semiconductors and the spread of Covid-19, there is a possibility that the production plan may be lower. However, we will examine the parts supply closely to minimize sudden decreases in production, and continue to make every effort possible to deliver as many vehicles to our customers at the earliest date,” Toyota says.

At a later date, Toyota will announce its production plan for July.
