At the beginning of June, after the 18-month upgrading and reconstruction project, Posco restarted its No.4 blast furnace located in Gwangyang.
The mentioned blast furnace, which was built in 1992, actually received the first reconstruction work in 2009 and successfully upgraded its effective volume to 5,500 cubic meters at that time.
Currently, the crude steel production capacity of the No.4 blast furnace is about 5 million tons per year, with 90% less dust emission than before.
However, as Posco predicted, in 2022 the crude steel production of the group may decrease by 4.7% year on year to 36.5 million tons, due to the depression of the manufacturing industry on a global scale.
