Vietnam's leading steelmaker, Hoa Phat Steel, has ordered from Danieli a new wire rod rolling line and a fast-finishing block for its Kinh Mon-based steel complex, Hai Duong Steel, Kallanish notes from the Italian equipment supplier.
The new line will be installed downstream from the No.1 rolling mill, which was also supplied by Danieli in 2007, and will produce reinforced steel wire in 8-14mm diameters. It will also produce smooth wire from 5.5-16mm diameter for low- to medium-carbon steel, and PC bar.
According to the steelmaker, Hoa Phat is the first and only producer in Vietnam of PC strand products. It signed an over 2,000 tonnes sales contract with US buyers to deliver PC strand this month. Hoa Phat is able to produce around 300,000 t/year of pre-stressed concrete steel, including over 200,000 t/y of pre-stressed concrete steel bar (PC bar) and over 80,000 t/y of pre-stressed concrete steel strand (PC strand).
The second project, a six-pass fast-finishing block, will be installed at a new lateral line of another Danieli bar and wire rod plant supplied in 2011. This solution splits the No.3 and No.4 rolling mills at the plant into two independent mills, and will increase the production capacity for the steel complex overall.
Hoa Phat operates a 2 million t/y iron and steel making plant in Hai Duong. Danieli has supplied four long steel rolling mills to the plant.
