Vietnam’s steel exports decline in Jan-Feb y-o-y

According to statistics from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, the country’s steel products export dropped by 33.5% year on year to around 540,000 tons in February. The two-month exports amounted to 1.33 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of nearly 21%, mainly to Cambodia (212,000 tons, down by 2.6% year on year).

The decrease in the January-February exports was due to higher steel prices and weak trading activities during the Spring Festival holiday in Vietnam.

In addition, due to improved demand in both domestic and export markets, Vietnam’s steel producers raised their finished steel output in the first two months of this year. The total finished steel output grew by 1.6% year on year to 5.12 million tons during the period, according to data from the Vietnam Steel Association (VSA).
