AM/NS files application to increase crude steel capacity to 14 mn t

AM/NS India has filed an application seeking environmental clearances for the expansion of its integrated steel plant from 9.6 mn t per annum to 14 mn t per annum liquid steel at Hazira Notified Industrial Area, District Surat, Gujarat.

"Our long-term production intentions to reach between 12 and 15 million tonnes of annual production still stands. In the short-term, the focus will be on debottlenecking our existing operations so we can increase annual production to around 8.5 million tonnes," said the company's Chairman Aditya Mittal to his colleagues on the occasion of celebrating the company's one year anniversary.

The proposed expansion project would include the production of 4.08 mn t per annum crude steel and 6 mn t per annum Hot Rolled Coil (HRC). The additional crude steel required for the production of 6 mn t per annum HRC would be obtained in the form of 2.04 mn t per annum slabs from the existing plant.

AMNS is also planning to develop its downstream capabilities and improve its capacity to produce higher value-added auto products as well as introducing other high-value products from the ArcelorMittal range. It has signed an MoU with POSCO Maharashtra Steel valued at INR 5000 Cr to supply hot rolled coils (HRC) in CY '21.
