The monthly production data published by the World Steel Association (worldsteel) suggests notable surge in crude steel output by the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region in November this year. The regional output reported jump of 7.0% when matched with the previous year. The output totalled 8.243 million tonnes (Mt), compared with 7.701 Mt during the same month a year before.
The leading steel producer in the region was Russia. The Russian output totalled 5.855 Mt, marginally higher by 1.9% from 5.746 Mt in November last year. Meantime, the output by Ukraine recorded substantial increase by 30.8% over the year from 1.325 Mt to 1.325 Mt. Kazakhstan, the third largest regional steel producer, saw its output plunge by almost 9.2% year-on-year. The monthly crude steel output by other countries in the region is as follows: Byelorussia (215,000 tonnes), Uzbekistan (70,000 tonnes) and Moldova (40,000 tonnes).
The cumulative crude steel output during the initial eleven-month period of the current year totalled 90.887 Mt, which is marginally lower by 1.2% over the previous year. The crude steel production by the region had totalled 91.953 Mt from January to November in 2019. All the countries except Uzbekistan and Moldova reported slump in production year-on-year.
The top steel producers in the C.I.S region in Jan-November ‘20 were Russia (65.182 Mt), Ukraine (18.710 Mt) and Kazakhstan (3.425 Mt).
