Major South Korea steelmaker Pohang Iron & Steel Co. (Posco) restarted the No.3 blast furnace at its Gwangyang plant on 10 July, Kallanish notes.
Posco had postponed the resumption of No.3 BF for nearly 40 days due to weak demand caused by the coronavirus pandemic, after missing its original plan to restart in late May.
The BF was repaired and under maintenance from February. Its inner volume was increased to 5,500m³ with a capacity of 4.5 million tonnes/year of crude steel, compared with the previous 4,600m³ and 3.7m t/y.
Posco has five BFs in Gwangyang and four in Pohang, about 100km south of Busan City and 375km southeast of Seoul respectively. Now, all nine BFs are in operation.
