The Sichuan provincial government has listed 29 projects in the iron and steel industry for promotion in 2020, 9 of which are expected to begin production during this year, Kallanish notes.
An event to promote high-quality construction for key investment projects in Sichuan's steel industry was held on 18 June 2020. According to media reports, among the 29 projects, with a total investment of CNY 47.29 billion ($6.68 billion), there are 9 ongoing projects and 20 new projects starting this year.
Luzhou Xinyang Steel's capacity replacement plant was the visit site for the event, and will ignite before the end of 2020. The plant will produce 2 million tonnes/year of vanadium-titanium high-strength steel after commissioning, and 62.5% of the construction has been completed as of 14 June.
Zhai Gang, deputy director of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Economics and Information Technology, says these projects will drive the technological level and industrial competitiveness of Sichuan EAF steelmaking equipment to the national advanced level.
