Long steel

  • In Shanghai on Friday afternoon, 20mm HRB400 rebar was trading at CNY 3,650-3,660/tonne ($538-539/t), CNY 65/t lower than the previous week. On the Shanghai Futures Exchange the May rebar contract closed CNY 25/t higher than Thursday and CNY 53/t higher over the week at CNY 3,539/t. – source: Kallanish

  • In Shanghai on Friday afternoon, 5.5x1,500mm Q235 HRC was trading at CNY 3,640-3,660/tonne ($536-539/t), down CNY 30/t from the previous week. On the Shanghai Futures Exchange the May HRC contract closed CNY 17/t higher than Thursday and CNY 75/t higher than the previous Friday at CNY 3,438/t. – source: Kallanish

 

  • East China, domestic, commercial-grade HRC (4.5-12mm), traded at 3,620-3,650 yuan ($533-537) per tonne, including VAT.

Scrap

  • Japanese H2 grade scrap was recently concluded at $297/t cfr Vietnam, market participants in Vietnam report. The weaker dollar contributed to the deal taking place, a buyer says. Importers are now bidding H2 grade scrap at $295/t cfr Vietnam. – source: Kallanish

 

  • Fastmarkets' import price assessment for HMS 1&2 (80:20) sold into Vietnam was $310-315 per tonne cfr for the week to January 11, down from $316-317 per tonne cfr a week earlier. – source: Fastmarkets

 

  • The daily index for US-origin HMS 1&2 (80:20) was $278.56 per tonne cfr on Friday, down by $4.03 per tonne day on day and down by $1.05 week on week. – source: Fastmarkets

 

Semis

  • On Friday, Kallanish assessed its weekly 5sp/ps or Q275120/125/130mm square billet price at $445-450/t cfr Manila, down $10 on week. - source: Kallanish

 

  • Prices fell in Manila with offers for many origins reaching $450/tonne cfr. Russian billet is offered at $450/t cfr and a few Russian mills at $448/t cfr. Malaysian billet is offered at $450-455/t cfr and Qatari billet, $450/t cfr. Earlier in the week, a deal for Russian 100mm billet closed at $450/t cfr Manila, and for Russian 125mm billet, $453/t cfr. - source: Kallanish

 

  • Billet from the Middle East, excluding Iran, was offered at $450 per tonne cfr Indonesia, while Iranian suppliers were asking for $420-430 per tonne cfr Indonesia and Thailand. – source: Fastmarkets

 

Bar/ Wire rod

  • Wire rod prices slid slightly in December but these are now stable at €500/tonne ($576.2/t) ex-works. The first category of beams also remains flat compared to last month at €230/t base or €610-620/t in transactions. As in December, beams remain in short supply in Italy. This is likely to sustain prices also during January. Merchant bar base prices remain at €130/t ex-works. Including size extras, they are at €550/t ex-works, market sources confirm. - source: Kallanish

 

HRC/P

  • Kallanish maintained its SAE 1006 grade 2-2.7mm thick HRC price assessment into Vietnam Friday at $480-485/t cfr. - source: Kallanish

 

  • Transaction prices for S275 that were at €540/tonne base ex-works last month are now at €560/t ($645.8/t) on average with producers asking  €570/t base ex-works. Grade 355 plate is €20/t higher meanwhile, sources suggest. Imported slab prices have reached $425/t cif Italy or $405/t fob. - source: Kallanish

 

  • Domestic rebar prices are on average at €270/tonne ($311.3/t) base delivered. Distributors have noticed a slight recovery in sales last week since the French market resumed work after the holiday break. Rebar prices are forecast to remain stable until the end of the month.
