Study of Strip Tension of Coiling Wide, Heavy- Gauge Strip

Posted on 07 February 2014

Plant trials conducted at ArcelorMittal Dofasco Inc. revealed that the slab cooling cycle at
the caster exit and slabyard, and reheating inside the hot mill furnace, had a strong influence on sliver formation on some hot rolled coils. Laboratory experiments were conducted to understand the influence of slab microstructure evolution on defect formation. A mechanism for sliver formation is proposed.
