The effect of process
design and operation of laminar cooling on the thermal and microstructural evolution
of low-carbon steels and the corresponding mechanical properties through the
thickness of hot rolled strips are analyzed. A method to determine the average
heat transfer coefficient of a cooling unit based on only typical logging data
is presented, and the thermal effectiveness of different cooling patterns is
presented. Finally, cooling strategies adopted by a hot strip mill are analyzed.
