The Effect of Silicon on the desulfurization of Al-Killed Steels
A stable liquid steel level in the mold is the key factor in the continuous casting of steel to form a homogeneous strand shell of optimum surface quality. State of-the-art thermal mold level control and local heat flux density measurements in billet and bloom molds use thermocouples. This work discusses a new technology based on optical glass fiber with Fiber Bragg gratings, with a focus on the measurement principle, the mathematical description of the mold level computation and the measurement details reflecting typical casting situations.
