The design of work roll cooling headers
varies from the early to the later finishing stands, as well as from one hot
strip mill to another. It is a common practice to apply variable flow of
cooling water across the work rolls. However, the impact of such nonuniform cooling
on flatness and crown in each of the finishing stands had not been thoroughly analyzed.
The effect of cooling pattern is evaluated here through simulations and
