Automatic roll loading systems have been used for many years in modern roll shops. Today, automatic loaders are driven by a CNC and have a software interface that receives electronic requests for rolls from the mills, recognize roll IDs through RFID tags, rotate chocks, schedule roll
movements in the roll shop, and prepare rolls for the mill without operator intervention. This paper presents one of the latest such automatic loader projects.
