The Canada Border Service Agency has issued a final order imposing safeguard measures on imported heavy plate and stainless steel wire, Kallanish reports.
The order is effective as of 13 May and applies to heavy plate and stainless steel wire from all countries excluding Chile, Columbia, Mexico, Panama, Peru, South Korea, the United States, Israel and some World Trade Organization member countries.
The safeguards apply to hot-rolled carbon steel plate and high-strength low-alloy steel plate in widths from 80 inches to 152 inches and thicknesses from 0.375 inches to 4.0 inches. All plate in coil form and all plate having a rolled, raised figure at regular intervals on the surface is excluded.
A surtax rate of 20% will be applied to heavy plate beginning 13 May 2019 and ending 12 May, 2020. A rate of 15% will applied between May 2020 and 12 May, 2021, and a rate of 10% will be applied between 13 May, 2021, and 24 October, 2021.
Also covered by the final order is cold-drawn and cold-drawn and annealed stainless steel round wire up to 0.256 inches in diameter.
A surtax rate of 25% will be applied to stainless steel wire beginning on 13 May, 2019, and ending 12 May, 2020. A rate of 15% will applied between 13 May, 2020, and 12 May, 2021, and a rate of 5% will applied between 13 May, 2021, and 24 October, 2021.
