Russia continues to ramp up exports

Russian exports of ferrous products increased on-year in January-August, while raw materials export tonnages varied, Kallanish notes from official statistics.
Exports of steel products remained flat on-month in August at 2.47 million tonnes, but increased by 14.3% on-year. Eight-month steel exports of 30.31mt were 12.3% higher on-year, driven by higher volumes of semi-finished steel shipments.
Exports of semis increased by 8.7% on-year in August to 1.18mt, while January-August exports increased by 14.1% to 10.69mt. Pig iron exports declined by -38.1% on-month in August, but rose 57.7% on-year, resulting in a 33.4% increase in eight-month shipments.
Exports of iron ore fell -18.3% on-year in January-August to 11.42mt. Coking coal exports of 1.8mt were down -9.8% in January-August, despite an August on-month increase of 16.8%.
Imports of ferrous products into Russia increased by 15.2% in January-August to 5.05mt, as imports of steel products rose by 5.3% to 4mt. Eight-month iron ore imports fell -8.4% to 5.2mt.
