Malaysia’s Ministry of International Trade & Industry (Miti) launched an anti-dumping investigation on 24 July into imports of galvanized coil and sheet from China and Vietnam, Kallanish notes.

Miti is targeting its investigation on imports classified under 23 HS code lines starting with 7210.41, 7210. 49, 7212.30, 7225.92, 7225.99 and 7226.99. The Ministry received a petition from domestic producer FIW Steel on behalf of the Malaysian industry, and determined there was sufficient evidence to warrant an investigation. China exported 19,118 tonnes of products under these codes to Malaysia in the first quarter, up 6.25% year-on-year.

Separately, Miti has imposed a 7.38% final antidumping duty on imports of electrolytic tinplate from China’s Zhongshan Shunwei Import and Export Co effective 26 July to 15 November 2018. The duty comes after an expedited review and applies to imports classified under HS code 7210.12.9000. China shipped 13,373t of tinplate under HS code 7210.12 in Q1, up 42.06% y-o-y.
