Mexico has renewed countervailing duty on imports of steel wire mesh originating from China for another five years, according to a document from the local authorities monitored by Kallanish.
The product under investigation is classified under HS codes 7314.19.03, 7314.19.99, 7314.31.01, 7314.41.01 and 7314.49.99.
According to the resolution, the duty enters in force retrospectively as from 25 July 2017. In the document, the Mexican authorities note that there is sufficient evidence of damage to the domestic production of the like product in the period from April 2012 to March 2017.
The duties were first imposed in July 2002 at $2.80/kg but this was amended in 2009 to $0.45/kg.
The latest renewal follows a request for the initiation of an expiry review submitted by local long steelmaker Deacero on 16 June 2016.
