Steel exports up by 22.5 pct in Jan-May 2017 YoY; imports fell by 20.3 pct – TCUD

According to the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers’ Association (TCUD), in the first five months of 2017, Turkish steel exports increased by 22.5 pct to 8.48 mln tons as compared to similar period last year.
In Jan-May 2017, semi-finished steel exports increased significantly by 515 pct to 512,578 ton YoY. Long products exports increased by 4.2 pct to 4.45 mln tons and flat steel exports were up by 78.6 pct to 1.92 mln tons YoY.
In May 2017, Turkish steel exports increased by 24.3 pct YoY to 1.64 mln tons. Flat products exports continued to increase notably by 196 pct to 454,701 tons. Billet exports also grew significantly by 210.5 pct to 79,876 tons in May 2017. Long steel exports decreased by 8.5 pct to 760,029 tons YoY.
Turkish steel imports in the first five months of 2017 have decreased by 20.3 pct to 6.36 mln tons YoY. Semi-finished steel imports were in total 1.97 mln; down by 30.7 pct YoY. Flat steel imports declined by 13.1 pct to 3.42 mln tons YoY.
In May 2017, total steel imports dropped by 22.1 pct to 1.18 mln tons. Semi-finished steel imports dropped by 40.4 pct to 324,284 tons and flat product imports declined by 8 pct to 678,662 tons YoY. Long steel product imports amounted to 99,286 tons, down by almost 35 pct YoY.
