  • Platts assessed Q235 HRC 5.5mm thick in Shanghai at Yuan 1,980-2,010/metric ton ($319-324/mt) ex-stock with 17% VAT Thursday, implying a midpoint of Yuan 1,995/mt, and up Yuan 55/mt from Wednesday. - source: Platts


Steel Prices in Other Countries

Scrap

  • Prices for containerized Taiwanese imports of HMS # 1&2 80:20 plummeted by $20 a ton to $200 a ton CFR Taiwan port in the week ended July 03. - source: Steel Index

 

  • Turkish domestic scrap prices already fell under $240/mt with mills' latest price cuts (see related article), while imported HMS 1&2 80:20 scrap prices also shows signs of falling under $240/mt CFR. - source: Platts

 

  • Turkey's largest integrated steelworks, the Erdemir group's Eregli plant in northern Turkey, decreased its buying price for DKP scrap by TRY 20 ($7.5)/mt to TRY 665 ($248)/mt as of July 9, Platts learned from the company. - source: Platts


 

Semis

  • Offer prices for Chinese 120mm Q275 billet were at $320-325/mt CFR Manila Thursday down from $330/mt CFR on Tuesday and $335-338/mt CFR last Friday. - source: Platts

 

  • Offer prices for Chinese billet are also lower elsewhere in the region. In Vietnam, traders reported seeing offers for 150mm Q235 billet at $295-300/mt CFR Haiphong compared to $305/mt CFR on Tuesday. Freight costs from China are around $10/mt. . - source: Platts

 

  • For 130mm Q235 billet, bids are at $300/mt CFR Indonesia, offers at $310/mt CFR, a regional trader said. Freight costs to Jakarta are around $15/mt. Chinese 120/130mm billet normally fetches $5-10/mt more than 150mm billet. Also, Q275 billet commands a $5/mt premium over Q235 billet. - source: Platts

 

  • Some Turkish mills began to offer standard billet at $360/mt ex-works, while Chinese offers were as low as $315-320/mt CFR Thursday, with discounts still available for sizeable bookings. - source: Platts

  • ASEAN hot rolled cold (HRC) steel import prices (CFR ASEAN port) declined further by $6 a ton to $348 a ton in the week ended July 03. - source: Steel Index

 

  • Platts held its HRC price assessment Thursday at $460-$470/st and its cold-rolled coil assessment at $580-$590/st. All prices are normalized to a Midwest (Indiana) ex-works basis. - source: Platts
