Steel Prices in China

Long steel

?           Prices of 20# 50-130mm round billet sourced from Zenith Steel Group and Changqiang Iron & Steel – themajor producers in east China’s Jiangsu – fell by Yuan 100/metric ton ($16/mt) to Yuan 2,900/mt ($467/mt) andYuan 2,850/mt ($459/mt) ex-works including VAT respectively.- source: Platts

 

?           Shagang trimmed its rebar ex-works prices for the January 11-20 period by Yuan 30/metric ton ($5/mt) on January11, making for the mill’s third straight cut since late December. Shagang’s price for 16-25mm diameter HRB400rebar therefore becomes Yuan 2,790/mt ($450/mt) including 17% VAT. Since the beginning of December the eastChina mill has slashed a total of Yuan 230/mt from its rebar price.- source: Platts

Flat steel

?           Plattsassessed Q235 5.5mm HRC in Shanghai at Yuan 2,940-2,970/metric ton ($474-479/mt), down Yuan 35/mt fromlast Friday. Identical quality coil in Lecong was assessed at Yuan 3,020-3,150/mt with VAT, Yuan 105 /mt lower onthe week.Source: Platts

 

Steel Prices in Other Countries

 

Scrap

?     Taiwan’s FengHsinkept its scrap buying price unchanged on week at TWD 7,800/mt on Monday. The steelmakerbuys mostly HMS 1&2 80:20 scrap. Taiwanese import prices of 80:20 (in container) were down $10/mt on week at$265/mt CFR Taiwan port Friday, according to The Steel Index, a unit of Platts.- source: Platts

 

?     South Korea SeAHBesteel bought Shindachi scrap from Japan at ¥32,000/ton.- source: Yieh

 

Semis

?     The southern European, the average of Platts FOB Black Sea export billet prices for last week was unchanged at $396/mt, and the rebar-billet spread fell by $7/mt to $96/mt.- source: Platts

?     The assessment for CIS export slab price was down from $370-415 per tonne fob before the winter holidays – source: MB

?     Steel First’s weekly price assessment for CIS export billet was $392-405 per tonne fob Black Sea for February rolling on Monday January 12, up only slightly from $388-405 per tonne fob for January production material before the seasonal holidays – source: MB

 

Bar/ Wire rod

?     The southern European rebar reference price ex-works rose by €4/mt to €415/mt ($492/mt).- source: Platts

 

?     Turkey’s major integrated long steelmaker, Kardemir maintained its rebar price at TRY 1,204/mt ex-works ($526) since December 19, while the country’s largest longs maker, Icdas, was offering 12-32mm diameter rebar at TRY 1,425/mt ex-works ($623), equivalent to $511/mt without 18% VAT, a price unchanged since mid-December.

The company’s 7-8.5 mm wire rod price also remained flat at TRY 1,450-1,480/mt ($634-647) ex-works, including 18% VAT. - source: Platts
