Steel Prices in China


Long products

-         China’s grade III rebar was traded at 3,010-3,060 yuan ($487-496) per tonne in Shanghai, unchanged from Wednesday – source: MB

Flat products

-         Commercial-grade hot rolled coil (4.5-12 mm) in Shanghai traded flat at 3,360-3,390 yuan ($545-549) per tonne, as did the same product in Beijing, at 3,250-3,270 yuan ($527-530) per tonne – source: MB

-         Export prices of hot rolled coil exported from China were stable on the week and most mills kept offers unchanged thanks to the good bookings. Platts assessed SS400B grade 3-4 mm thick HRC at $505-510/metric ton FOB China on Thursday – source: Platts

Steel Prices in other countries



-         China’s heavy scrap traded at 2,240-2,320 yuan ($363-376) per tonne including tax on a delivered basis to eastern Chinese steel mills on Friday June 5,where prices have held since May 23 – source: Steel First

-         At Detroit-area steel mills, shredded scrap traded at $365/lt and No. 1 busheling at $400-405/lt in Detroit on a delivered mill basis – source: Platts

-         A Thai steel mill last week secured one 38,000-40,000 mt full-shredded US bulk ferrous scrap cargo for July shipment at $390/mt CFR – source: Platts


-         CIS-origin export prices for billet rolled in July at $490-495 per tonne fob Black Sea on Monday June 2 – source: MB

Bar/ Wire rod

-         The last tonnages of June-produced rebar and wire rod from CIS, mainly Ukraine and Belarus, were sold for $520-530/mt and $550-560/mt FOB Black Sea respectively – source: Platts


-         SAE1006-grade HRC of 2-3mm thickness from Chinese origin has been booked by Vietnamese buyers over the past few days for as low as $535 per tonne cfr – source: Steel First

-         Southern European domestic plate fell to €475-480 ($647-653) per tonne ex-works, down from €480-490 per tonne ex-works the week before - MB
