China’s Steel prices

Long steel prices

-      In Beijing, grade III rebar was traded at 3,200-3,220 yuan ($525-528) per tonne on Monday, unchanged since January 14 – source: MB


Flat steel prices

-      China’s Q235 grade 14-20mm plate had dropped Yuan 40/metric ton from Monday to Yuan 3,500-3,520/metric ton ($573-577/mt) – source: SBB

-   In Shanghai, domestic 1.0mm thickness CRC was traded at 4,160-4,240 yuan ($682-695) per tonne including VAT on Tuesday, unchanged from Steel First’s assessment last Friday as well as a week earlier – source: MB

-   Commercial-grade HRC (4.5-12mm) in Shanghai traded at 3,450-3,480 yuan ($566-571) per tonne, widening downwards by 10 yuan ($2) per tonne from last Friday – source: MB

Steel Prices in other countries


-     For export, at the gates of the Saint-Petersburg port 3A scrap (equivalent to HMS 1&2 80:20) is still selling for 9,200 rubles/metric ton ($272); in south Russia’s Rostov-on-Don ports it fetches 9,400-9,450 rubles/mt ($278-280) excluding handling fees and 12.5% customs duty – source: SBB

-          Last week, a bulk West Coast US cargo for February shipment was booked at $391/mt CFR Vietnam for HMS basis and $396/mt CFR for shredded – source: SBB

-          In Wednesday’s Kanto Tetsugen export scrap auction for Japanese H2 grade scrap, the highest-priced bid fell by Yen 1,780/mt ($17/mt) to Yen 35,360/mt ($340/mt) FAS from the previous month's auction – source: SBB

-          The 80:20 container scrap export price was settled at US$360/ton in the last week and the price cut to US$355/ton now – source: Yieh

-          Turkey, domestic, January 20, auto bundle (DKP grade) scrap, bid at TRY780-880 ($348-393) per tonne delivered – source: Steel First


-          Cash prices for the semi-finished product stood at $350-360 per tonne, the same level seen throughout last week – source: MB

Bar/ Wire rod

-          Brazil's rebar price at Real 2,220-2,300/mt ($944-978/mt) ex-works at year-end 2013, excluding taxes – source: SBB

-          Shagang issued a new statement saying that it would now be reducing its 6.5mm HPB300 wire rod by 50 yuan ($8) per tonne to 3,390 yuan ($556) per tonne – source: Steel First

-          Taiwan’s rebar demand started its growing as rebar transaction price has been cut to NT$16,800~17,000/ton in the domestic market – source: Yieh



-          HRC steady at $680-690/st in US market – source: SBB

-          Ukraine’s Metinvest was negotiating HRC at $540-545/metric ton (€398-402/mt) FOB Black Sea, an increase of $10-15/mt on previous levels – source: SBB

-          Russian mills are planning to increase their domestic prices for February-produced hot rolled sheets by up to 1,200 rubles/metric ton ($35-36), excluding 18% value added tax – source: SBB

-          Turkish buyers booked around 40,000 mt of HRC from Russia for February production at around $565/mt CFR Turkey, while transacted prices from Ukraine are at around $555/mt CFR – source: SBB
