China’s Steel prices

Long steel prices

-       On Beijing’s dealer market, spot prices for 18-25mm diameter HRB400 rebar were assessed at Yuan 3,610- 3,620/metric ton ($585-587/mt) with 17% VAT, down from last Friday’s Yuan 3,630-3,640/mt – source: SBB

-       Rebar for January delivery gained as much as 0.8% to CNY 3,843 (USD 629) a metric tonne on the Shanghai Futures Exchange and was at CNY 3,821 at 10:59 AM local time. The most-active contract rose 1.5% last week for a third straight gain – source: Bloomberg

-       The average price of 6.5mm HPB235 in Chinese major markets declined by RMB 4 to RMB 3,634 per tonne on August 19 and that of 20mm HRB335 dropped by RMB 5 to RMB 3,734 per tonne - source: SteelHome

Flat steel prices

-       China’s base export transaction prices were at $600-605 per tonne fob for October shipment, up $5 per tonne last Friday – source: MB

-       On August 19, Q235 5.5mm HRC prices were Yuan 3,630-3,650/metric ton ($593-596/mt) with 17% VAT in Shanghai and Yuan 3,750-3,790/mt with VAT in Lecong, both unchanged from last Friday – source: SBB

-       Commercial-grade hot rolled coil (4.5-12mm) in Shanghai traded at 3,630-3,650 yuan ($589-592) per tonne, down 10 yuan ($2) per tonne from last Friday’s price range – source: MB

-       China’s prices of 2.75mm HRC grew by RMB 4 to RMB 3,844 per tonne; prices of 1.0mm CRC rose by RMB 3 to RMB 4,527 per tonne – source: SteelHome

Steel Prices in other countries


-          Tokyo Steel Manufacturing is adding Yen 1,000-1,500/mt ($10-15/mt) to the buying prices for all grades of ferrous scrap at all its works, effective from August 20 arrivals – source: SBB


-          In Beijing, grade III rebar was trading at 3,580-3,670 yuan ($581-595) per tonne, down 20-30 yuan ($3-5) per tonne from last Friday – source: mb

-          Cash prices for the semi-finished product also stayed firm at $140-150 per tonne, unchanged from the previous trading day – source: MB

Bar/Wire rod

-          US bar price remained steady. Prices for 2x2x0.25in angles remain at $753 per ton ($37.65 per hundredweight), 3x3x0.25in angles at $762 per ton ($38.10 per cwt), 8x11.5in channels at $747 per ton ($37.35 per cwt) and 0.5x4in flats at $757 per ton ($37.85 per cwt) – source: MB

-          Taiwanese mini-mills Feng Hsin Iron & Steel and Hai Kwang Enterprise have lifted their domestic rebar prices by TWD 300/metric ton ($10/mt) due to higher global scrap prices and improved demand – source: SBB


-          Japan Tokyo Steel raised its SS400 series plate to Yen 69,000/mt ($711/mt) and that for 0.6mm SGCC Z08 HDG to Yen 82,000/mt ($837/mt) – source: SBB

-          Prices of A36 commodity plate moves up to $710-730/st ex-works southeastern US mill – source: SBB
