China’s Steel prices

Long steel prices

-       On Beijing’s dealer market, spot prices for 18-25mm diameter HRB400 rebar sourced from Hebei Iron & Steel (Hegang) were assessed at Yuan 3,590-3,600/metric ton, up by Yuan 40/mt from Monday. The prices include 17% value-added tax – source: SBB

-       The average price of 6.5mm HPB235 in Chinese major markets increased by RMB 11 to RMB 3,606 per tonne on August 13 and that of 20mm HRB335 increased by RMB 17 to RMB 3,567 per tonne – source: SteelHome

Flat steel prices

-       China’s base export transaction prices for commercial-grade, boron-containing plate were at $530-535 per tonne fob for October shipment, up $5-10 per tonne – source: MB

-       In Shanghai, 14-20mm plate was traded at 3,640-3,680 yuan per tonne on Wednesday, tightening upwards by 30 yuan per tonne from a week earlier – source: MB

-       On China’s domestic market, CRC of 1.0mm thickness was traded at 4,420-4,480 yuan ($717-727) per tonne in Shanghai on Tuesday, up 20-30 yuan ($3-5) per tonne from a week ago – source: MB

-       China’s prices of 2.75mm HRC grew by RMB 17 to RMB 3,814 per tonne; prices of 1.0mm CRC rose by RMB 4 to RMB 4,494 per tonne – source: SteelHome

-       Prices of 8mm medium plate surged by RMB 11 to RMB 4,003 per tonne in China – source: SteelHome

Steel Prices in other countries


-          Japanese EAF operators continue to benefit from falling scrap prices, with the index for scrap costs showing a 1.8% year-on-year decline in July following a 1.6% drop in June – source: MB

-          US’s scrap Index for No1 busheling settled on Monday August 12 at $409.95 per gross ton, down by 79 cents from July 10, while the Midwest Ferrous Scrap Index for shredded settled at $368.85 per ton, down by 3.2% from $381.06 in the same comparison, creating a $41.10 differential – source: MB

Bar/Wire rod

-          The latest Turkish rebar import offers were $605-615 per tonne cfr on a theoretical weight basis, down from $605-620 per tonne cfr before the post-Ramadan eid – source: MB


-          Among the Korean plate mills, a momentum of a price recovery seems to be increasing. The current domestic prices of steel plates in Korea do not reach even KRW 700,000 but stay at the lower end of KRW 600,000 for some projects – source: SteelGuru
