ENERGY EFFICIENCY MEASURES AND INVESTMENTS - PROOF OF BENEFITS BY CASE STUDIES
BY JOHANN KRIECHMAIR*1 DIETER BETTINGER*2 GERHARD ENICKL*3 ARMIN BUMBERGER*4 The optimized consumption of energy and raw materials, the application of advanced technological processes and the maximum application of recovery and recycling solutions leads to major energy savings, reduced CO2 emissions, increased environmental compatibility and higher profits for the steel producer. Even at highly efficient plants, there is still potential to achieve significant improvements. In this paper, several solutions for improving the energy efficiency of the iron and steel making processes are shown. For every single measure and investment respectively, four key factors will be stressed: the challenge, the solution, the environmental benefit and the economical customer's benefit.
