Police check the body of a dead worker after the explosion at a factory in Da Nang Sunday

An explosion at a factory in an industrial zone in Da Nang on Sunday killed one worker, according to local police.

Initial investigations have revealed that a gas leak caused the explosion at Thai Binh Duong Steel Factory in Hoa Khanh Industrial Zone.

Local residents said they heard a big bang and then saw a lot of dust and iron debris blasted from the site.

Worker Ho Viet Hung, 35, was killed.

Hung's wife Tran Thi Thuy said Hung had been working at the factory for over a year as a welder. He earned nearly VND2 million (US$103) a month.

Thuy said he was the bread winner of the family. They had two small children.

In June this year, an oil tank exploded at Thai Binh Duong factory and killed a 22-year-old worker from nearby Thua Thien-Hue Province.

Police are investigating the case further.
